Good Easter morning and I hope you all all safe and well.
i just want to give an update on our Brutus.
He is still here with us and he is doing well for a dog who the vet suggested we euthanize March 23rd.
Thank God we chose to go with our own feelings and gut instinct that Brutus was not ready to say goodbye.
He is eating excellent,- very, very excellent! Also going for short walks and very much interested in what is going on in the world around him.
He is not in pain and some of the swelling has even gone down from the Lasix medication.
And speaking of medication, thankfully I didn’t discontinue giving him the rest of his daily meds when we brought him home.
What I am saying is that he may pass away tomorrow, this week or perhaps next month. I don’t know. But today he is still very much alive, feisty and defiantly not a dog that was ready to die.
The vet should have offered hospice advice and not be so fast with the needle.
And this is a vet we have been taking our pets to for almost 30 years! A man we had come to trust. and an office staff we knew very well.
But like so many other things, since covid happened their attitudes have changed. He is not the same compassionate caring vet.
Actually neither is my own doctor and I’ve been seeing him for over 25 years. The medical profession has gone down the crapper.
When all is said and done I will try to find a new vet for any future pets we may get.
Each day he is still with is a blessing and I am most thankful for that.

Well done Diane, that’s nice to read, still eats like a young dog, that says something.
You can only keep a close eye on it, you will notice yourself if Brutus starts to do less.
If this is a recent photo, there is still snow….brrrrrrrrr
We will keep our fingers crossed that it will go well for weeks if not months without pain or other misery.
And hold on to your own last sentence, strength from us.
Cali Angel says
Hi Dick, I took that photo March 22. The last of the snow in our yard has finally melted just a few days ago.
That is also artificial turf/grass in Bru’s fenced in kennel which is why it’s so green.
Hubby and I installed it ourselves in 2018 because the grass had become just dirt and all mud when wet.
You are so right, we will know when he is ready to say goodbye. Some “experts” are not always wise. Nor are they as caring as they once were

Good to hear Brutus is doing so well Di
Cali Angel says
Hi Jackie
I keep thinking how on that day I almost agreed with the vet’s advice…
But hubby said no and I am so thankful he did.
I’m so disappointed in this vet who I have trusted over the years.
I have been in contact with a vet who has a Home Euthanasia Service called Journey’s End. When that time comes to cross the bridge she will come to our home.
Jackie says
Hi Di yes our local vet has the same kind of service, and I do believe it can also pay to get a second opinion. It is sad that a vet you have trusted for so many years has lost your confidence. The vet we always used has since passed away and the clinic got sold but I have found 2 vets there that are very caring with my Siamese (Sophie) as she has dental issues poor little girl now only possess’ her 4 canines and 5 lower incisors but she still eats her normal food including her hard biscuits
Cali Angel says
A very Happy Easter I wish to you all
